Screen Time Calculator
Enter how long you spend on your phone each day. The calculator turns it into hours per week, month and year, shows what share of your waking day it is, and how much time a small cut-back gives you.

This screen time calculator shows what your daily phone time adds up to. A daily number feels small; a yearly one is much easier to picture. Put in your own hours and minutes, and the results update as you type.
How to use the screen time calculator
- Enter your hours and minutes per day. Your phone can tell you: on Android it’s in Settings under Digital Wellbeing, on an iPhone under Settings > Screen Time. A weekly average gives a fairer picture than a single day.
- Set your waking hours. It starts at 16 (a day minus 8 hours of sleep). Change it to match your own day.
- Optionally enter a cut-back in minutes per day to see how much time you’d gain over a year.
How the calculation works
Everything starts from your daily time in hours (minutes ÷ 60):
- Per week = daily hours × 7
- Per month = daily hours × 365.25 ÷ 12. The average month is 30.4375 days, because a year averages 365.25 days once leap years are counted.
- Per year = daily hours × 365
- Full days per year = yearly hours ÷ 24
- Share of your waking day = daily hours ÷ waking hours
- Hours gained by cutting back = cut-back minutes × 365 ÷ 60
The calculator uses the number you type for every day of the year. If your weekends look different from your weekdays, use your weekly average.
Worked examples
1 hour 30 minutes a day. That’s 1.5 hours. Per week: 1.5 × 7 = 10.5 hours. Per month: 1.5 × 30.4375 ≈ 45.7 hours. Per year: 1.5 × 365 = 547.5 hours, which is 547.5 ÷ 24 ≈ 22.8 full days. With 16 waking hours, it’s 1.5 ÷ 16 ≈ 9.4% of your waking day.
Cutting back by 30 minutes a day. 30 × 365 ÷ 60 = 182.5 hours a year. That’s more than a week of full days, from half an hour a day.
3 hours a day. Per week: 21 hours. Per year: 3 × 365 = 1,095 hours, or about 45.6 full days. With 16 waking hours, that’s 18.75% of the day you’re awake.
Tips for using your screen time well
- Measure before you change anything. Check a full week in your phone’s settings, then use the average.
- Pick one small cut-back. Fifteen or thirty minutes a day is easy to keep, and the yearly total above shows why it’s worth it.
- Swap, don’t just stop. Replace a scroll habit with something you enjoy more: a walk, a book, a call with a friend.
- Set app timers. Both Android and iPhone let you set daily limits for single apps.
Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent or saved.
Make your phone time count
Some of your screen time is going to be games anyway, so you might as well get something back for it. With Playout, the casual games you play on Android earn coins that become PayPal cash or gift cards. See how to earn in your spare time with a few minutes here and there.
