Key facts

- Yearly
- Weekly × paid weeks per year
- Monthly
- Yearly ÷ 12
- Defaults
- 40 hours a week, 52 paid weeks, both editable
Comparing a job offer, asking for a raise or planning a budget often means switching between an hourly wage and a yearly salary. This hourly to salary calculator converts in both directions: enter one figure and see your hourly, weekly, monthly and yearly pay side by side.
How to use the salary calculator
- Type your pay into any of the four fields: yearly salary, monthly, weekly or hourly.
- Check hours per week. It starts at 40; change it for part-time work or longer weeks.
- Check paid weeks per year. It starts at 52. If you’re paid only for the weeks you work, enter that number instead.
The other fields fill in as you type. Amounts are plain numbers in whatever currency you use.
How the conversion works
The calculator converts everything through the yearly figure:
- Weekly = hourly × hours per week
- Yearly = weekly × paid weeks per year
- Monthly = yearly ÷ 12
- Hourly = yearly ÷ paid weeks ÷ hours per week
Monthly pay is yearly ÷ 12, not weekly × 4. A month is a little more than four weeks, so multiplying by 4 would leave out about a third of a week every month.
Results are rounded to the cent. Taxes and deductions aren’t included: gross pay in, gross pay out.
Worked examples
20 an hour, 40 hours, 52 weeks. Weekly: 20 × 40 = 800. Yearly: 800 × 52 = 41,600. Monthly: 41,600 ÷ 12 ≈ 3,466.67.
A 52,000 yearly salary. Weekly: 52,000 ÷ 52 = 1,000. Hourly at 40 hours: 1,000 ÷ 40 = 25. Monthly: 52,000 ÷ 12 ≈ 4,333.33.
Part-time: 15 an hour, 20 hours a week, 48 paid weeks. Weekly: 15 × 20 = 300. Yearly: 300 × 48 = 14,400. Monthly: 14,400 ÷ 12 = 1,200.
Tips for comparing pay
- Compare like with like. Turn every offer into the same unit (hourly is fairest when the hours differ).
- Use real hours. If a salaried job regularly runs to 45 hours, enter 45 to see your true hourly rate.
- Count paid time off. Paid holidays are paid weeks; unpaid breaks are not.
- Gross vs. net. Enter gross pay to compare offers; enter take-home pay to plan your budget.
Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent or saved.
